There are three ways funding is distributed thorugh the Foundation for Southeast Texas; endowed designated funds, non-endowed donor advised funds, and unrestricted funds.
"To serve is beautiful, but only if it is done with joy and a whole heart and a free mind."
Pearl S. Buck
Endowed Designated Funds
All grants made from endowed, designated funds are distributed in January. The amount of the grant is determined by the rate set by the Board. The Board’s decision is based on the value of the fund on December 31st of the preceding year. As much as 5% of the value of the fund may be awarded. In severe economic downturns the grant payout will be much less because the principal of the fund cannot be invaded, unless the agreement between the donor and the Foundation specifically gives permission.
Non-Endowed Donor Advised Funds
Non-endowed Donor Advised Funds are awarded to various nonprofit recipients at the request of the donor with approval from the board throughout the year.
Grants from the earnings of the Foundation’s "unrestricted funds" are awarded competitively once a year with the application process beginning in January. The amount available for grants is determined by the Board and varies according to the market value of the funds. Applications forms, guidelines and policies are available at local libraries and on this web site beginning the first week in January each year. Click here to view the Grants Awarded in 2019. Grants are awarded to nonprofits in accordance to the wishes of the donors. All funds in the Foundation are governed with an agreement between the donor and the Foundation. The agreement specifies how the grant is to be made.
