The Laing Family Donor Advised Fund
In December of 2003, the Laing family established a donor advised fund with the Foundation for Southeast Texas. John Laing has had a successful career and is pleased that his family is able to give more back to the community now and for generations that follow. John chose the Foundation for Southeast Texas because he believes that his family can “systematically give back to many nonprofits in a controlled environment. Also the diversity of services a community foundation offers is the perfect solution for a family with varied charitable interests.” The foundation is located centrally among the family members who are active participants in gifting to various communities. John was already familiar and has a great respect for the Trust Department at Capital One, the investment managers for the Foundation.
John Laing and his wife, Linda live the Dallas area. They came to Dallas from Lake Charles, Louisiana where John was a Regional Chairman for six years. Before his career with Hibernia, John was the President of a bank in Houma, Louisiana that merged with Hibernia in 1995.
Linda Laing is a retired nurse who specialized in hospice care and is now a volunteer in her new community.
Daughters, Elizabeth, who lives in Sugarland, TX and Mary, who lives in Houma, LA, both have charitable interests, especially children’s organizations.
John, Linda, Elizabeth and Mary all support their churches and special gifts are made from the fund for church programs.
In their leisure time, John and Linda enjoy traveling, playing golf and visiting with family, especially their grandchildren.
The Board of the Foundation for Southeast Texas is truly pleased that the Laing family chosen the Foundation to be their helper in their philanthropic pursuits of this generation and for future generations.
